Paulo Meirelles

Paulo Meirelles was born in Astorga, a city in Paraná State in Brazil, and started his musical studies at the age of 5 with Sandra Delallo, his piano teacher until he was 18 years old.  In 2004 he was awarded at Furnas Geração Musical and in the following years he took part  at the Londrina Music Festival, attending piano and chamber music classes.

 

From 2007 to 2010 Paulo Meirelles gets his Bachelor's Degree in Piano at USP in Ribeirão Preto being a student of Fernando Corvisier.  During this period he was awarded piano competitions such as ArtLivre, Villa-Lobos, Bauru-Atlanta Competition and Edna Bassetti, and participated in festivals such as Ouro Branco Music Week, Poços de Caldas Festival where he was assistant piano teacher in the 2010 edition  .

 

In 2011 he moved to Porto Alegre to take a master's degree in music performance  at UFRGS, receiving a CAPES scholarship under the guidance of Ney Fialkow.  During this period he was selected as a fellow at the Campos de Jordão festival and at the Music in the Pampas de Bagé festival he won the first scholarship contest of the Franco-Brésilien committee of the École Normale de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot.  Thanks to this scholarship in 2012 Paulo Meirelles moved to Paris, where he lives since.

 

Paulo Meirelles  studied at the École Normale de Musique de Paris from 2012 to 2015 where he obtained the Diplôme d'Exécution with the  unanimity  of  the jury.  He was a student of Erick Berchot.  During this period he was invited to perform in Paris at Salle Cortot, Palais d'Iena, France-Amériques, among other concert halls.

 

He performs regularly in concert tours in Brazil, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland and Laos.  Since 2016 he is a PhD candidate  in music and musicology at Sorbonne Université under the guidance of Sylvie Douche, working on the piano work by Almeida Prado, which he promotes in concerts and international musicological events like the Encontro internacional Piano Contemporâneo in Porto in 2019.  Since 2017 he has been interested in the historically informed interpretation of 19th century pianos as a guest artist at the Royaumont foundation festival, where he holds an artistic residency on Almeida Prado in December 2019.
