The east-western belt extending for about 300 kilometers between the towns of Venâncio Aires and Mata, in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), is extremely rich in tetrapod-bearing outcrops of Triassic age. The PaleoLab, together with Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (FSM), organized field trips do these areas during 2010 and 2012, in the context of a research project funded by the Brazilian agency FAPESP. Among the recovered fossils, dinosaurs, cynodonts, and sphenodontians have been found.
