É notória a grande diversidade taxonômica da região Neotropical. Existe,
entretanto, um enorme déficit entre as estimativas do número de espécies e a
quantidade de trabalhos de sistemática. Assim, impossibilitando o
desenvolvimento de programas de pesquisa voltados para a compreensão dos
processos naturais e a conseqüente implementação de políticas conservacionistas.
Neste contexto, o mini- urso objetiva ressaltar a necessidade de conhecimento
taxonômico para as diversas áreas da biologia (ecologia, biomonitoramento,
qualidade de água, piscicultura, importância médica), usando como ferramenta os
insetos aquáticos (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera e Diptera:
Chironomidae). Os principais caracteres taxonômicos das famílias que ocorrem no
Brasil, incluindo as características morfofisiológicas relacionadas ao ambiente
aquático, serão expostos visando a compreensão dos organismos em seu hábitat e
uma visão panorâmica da história evolutiva dos grupos. Por fim, a exploração das
metodologias de coleta e conservação dos grupos de interesse, bem como a
utilização por meio de uma saída de campo, fornecerá as ferramentas básicas para
subseqüentes estudos envolvendo entomologia aquática.

6ª feira: Aulas teóricas sobre sistemática e biologia de Trichoptera, com
concomitante análise de material; Os insetos aquáticos como ferramenta em
biologia da conservação.
